The Arts have invaded downtown Lapeer this year and the LAA plans to keep the celebration going this weekend Saturday, July 12th from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m at Gallery 194. So far this summer, residents in Lapeer have enjoyed the DIA Inside/Out, Art on Nepessing and Paint the Townz all to celebrate the arts. LAA will host a Day of Art in Downtown Lapeer free and open to the public.
The Art Association has activities planned for children and adults that include: Colored Pencil workshops (35- 45 minutes) taking place throughout the day along with sidewalk chalk drawing for all ages; Plein Air painting demonstrations on the Courthouse Lawn. Afternoon activities and demonstrations will include Mosaic Tiles, Tile Painting, and Basketry.
In addition to these great activities and demonstrations, artists Marianna Fiedor and Kathy Cassell have come up with a community collage project that will be created Saturday afternoon. Visitors to the gallery will be able to help create a multi-media Cityscape and a Farmscape that will go on display in Gallery 194 when completed.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy free refreshments provided by LAA and get more information about upcoming events and activities held by both the Art Association and the Center for the Arts of Greater Lapeer. Several members will be on hand throughout the day to talk with visitors and answer questions for anyone that might be thinking of joining the Art Association. Come take a peek at what we do – all are welcome!
While at the gallery be sure to view the current Small Treasures exhibit put on by the Lapeer Art Association. Also check out the Julia Kay Portrait Party exhibit in the main gallery and you can create a portrait of your own to add to the exhibit.
